This is a stunning, authentic Peruvian Retablo (altar-piece) featuring a vibrant Nativity scene. Hand-crafted and hand-painted, this traditional piece of Andean folk art is housed in a wooden box with decorative folding doors.
A multi-figure Nativity scene featuring Mary, Joseph, and the Baby Jesus, surrounded by traditional Andean musicians and villagers in indigenous dress.
Features intricate 3D figures sculpted from a paste of boiled potato and gypsum (traditional pasta), meticulously hand-painted with vivid colors.
The doors and pediment are decorated with classic bright floral motifs typical of the Ayacucho region of Peru. Fair vintage condition, lots of paint loss and chippy paint The colors remain bright and the hinged doors function.
